An Adult revelation , while in college, shortly after my auntie permed my hair
for a beauty school exam, I realized, that I did not like permed lifeless stripped hair. it wasn't for me.

We have many hair textures , just like skin tones, in our family.
All through childhood [i had the" bad hair", my sister had the "good hair ", and other crazy old myths like that ] and at school? I never had perms in hair. I'd see girls with permed hair that did not puff up in high humidity and wanted to know what it was like? So? I agreed to be her dummy/test head for the exam, when she asked me.
I did not like the permed smell, I didn't like the texture, I did notlot the chemicals on my hair. [i don't put chemicals in my body / why put them in my hair?] So I decided to grow it out, cut the ends to trim & embrace the original textures the creator gave me & love it. Any hair that the Creator gifts you with , is" good hair !" Perm heair looks good on some, it's not my thing.

maintenance - i wear twists, and single afro puff buns, wrap it with pretty fabric, and" braid outs". At night I put my hair into 6 or 7 fat braids, and pick it out with my fingers in the morning. When washing it, because it tangles a lot, I put it into 6 or 7 fat braids and wash it, condition it with olive oil [<--my mom's favorite cure all, or castor oil, shea butter, carrot oil, kemi oil hair mayonnaise, pantene & aveda] My hair is not wavy like my Moms or straight like my Sister's. It's kinky/coily/curly depending on location on my head. i definitely have to negotiate with it! it is a force to be reckoned with, but it's uniquely mine! I hope the good hair / bad hair nonsense eventually becomes passe and get's checked. Black People really need to stop doing this to each other - [judging on hair texture, eyecolor & skin color ] it's insanity & pure self hate. ~ peace

My Husband loves to touch & play in my kinky hair as it - and for the RARE occasional straighter styles? a flat iron will suffice, but I'm not ever doing perms again ! My hair is long, soft, thick, healthy & all the way kinky again,( after years of growing it back ) All Thanks to the Creator, i'm never agreeing to anything like that to my hair again. curiosity satiated !]
